I can hear Don LaFontaine now. "From the studio that brought you March of the Penguins and King Dork comes a new form of horror.........."
Paramount (Vantage) Pictures is currently set to make a tattoo oriented horror flick currently entitled Ink. Hopefully the movie isn't as bad as the title. Here are some other tattoo oriented classics.

This article about tattoo influenced culture makes for a good read. I find it interesting that Sailor Jerry (one of my favorite clothing lines - available at Art-N-Body) runs revenues of about $16 million a year. This is much more than I would have imagined and is a positive sign of the times. Old skool tattoo imagery is still in and growing.
I agree with the author in that tattoos seem to go against the traditional bell curve of cultural trends. Typically as unique personal identifiers become more popular they eventually die off as a result of not being unique any longer. Even with the bulk of the population having tattoos - their popularity keeps growing. The uniqueness of each work of art may be the reason why. In other forms of fashion there can only be so many designs created until the brand or a specific design becomes vanilla. Tattoos are a fashion statement that are rarely reproduced. Even with flash art being shared most artists will put their own twist on a piece so that the design represents a unique personal piece of art. All of this being said tattoos are really not a trend as continued lifetime growth and positive law trends continue to push them into popularity.
The uniqueness of tattoos will come from the quality of the wearers artwork and the amount of work that they actually wear.

The votes are in! Artvoice's Best of Buffalo survey placed Art-N-Body as a finalist in the following categories:
Not bad for a shop that has only been open for 4 months!
The finalists are listed in no particular order and the winners will be announced on Monday, April 30 at Artvoice's annual Best of Buffalo Bash held at Town Ballroom.
Art-N-Body would like to thank all of our clients for their continued support. Wish us luck!

Although outside the normal scope of our posts, but because of the broad diversity of our readers, the following are my thoughts on the Virginia Tech Massacre.
David Bowie wrote a song called “I’m Afraid of Americans.” Well quite frankly, as an American, I am afraid of Americans too. Look at who we are and where we came from. The settling of America was largely composed of religious fanatics, indentured servants, criminals, opportunistic thugs and other fringe types. Back then, you had to figure that chances of even making it across the ocean weren’t very good. Then the chances of your survival once in America were none too good either. So things had to really, really suck in your neighborhood if coming to America looked like a good idea. Ultimately, America has been substantially helped by our general willingness to be open to those that want to come here.
And what stew does that mix make? A great one! In spite of our own government’s best efforts to strip us of our civil liberties and freedoms, I believe that most Americans still want to live an unencumbered life of their own choosing. And for the most part, it is still possible. Unfortunately, there is no utopia when it comes to any system. As it is true that to love someone, you have to also risk being badly hurt, when we live a free life, we are also exposing ourselves to dangers from others. Fortunately, those risks are small in the big picture of things. Previous to the Virginia Tech Massacre, the worst school killings occurred in 1966 – over 40 years ago. I do not say this to take away from the tragedy of what has happened, just to say that it has been a part of our lives for a good stretch of time.
On behalf of Art-N-Body, I want to express my deepest sorrow and sympathy for those that needlessly died and also to their families. Actually, everyone has lost something in this event. Without further limiting our ability to be creatively free to live our lives as we see fit (without harming others, of course), let’s see if there are lessons that can be learned from this tragic event and go forward to an even better way of life. Otherwise, the loss of those that have died will truly be in vain and this lesson will continue to be repeated.
Peace. Make Love, Not War.

The tattoo community is circling around and spreading the word about the tragic death of tattoo artist Monica Henk. On April 7 Monica was struck by a "95-97 BLACK CHEVY S-10 BLAZER with front end damage" while riding her motorcycle. The accident occurred at the corner of Kent and Flushing in Brooklyn, NY. The driver cowardly fled the scene and has not yet been found.
Tragically her injuries got the best of her and last Thursday Monica Henk was pronounced dead.
If have any information about this tragic accident please contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS. Her family and ex-husband (tattoo artist - Don Henk) are asking people to spread the word in hopes of finding the person responsible. You can view Monica's MySpace page here and Don's Myspace page here.

I thought I would share this article about embarrassing tattoos. I understand that we each have our own thoughts and that ones body art may have a deep routed meaning that the viewer may not understand. To each their own, I say.
I am sure that the individual that had that "Indian humping a corn dog" tattoo placed on them for life had a great reason for doing so; I just cant figure it out (and I'm not sure I want too).

Unfortunately the last few days of "tattoo" news has been a bit slow. This forces me to post the most popular story of the week which could be considered celeb gossip at best. Yuck. For those who care - soccer king (and husband to Posh Spice) David Beckham got a new Tattoo! Yeah!
From what I can see it looks like a quality pierce so he seems to have gotten his $1000 worth (6 hr session). Here is a great article describing his new sleeve and a better picture of it.
While I would rather you spend your money at Art-N-Body you can purchase David Beckhams tattoos via a shirt if you so desire.

The real reason I wrote this is so I would have a reason to post an Ali G video on a tattoo blog. Here is Ali G interviewing David and Victoria (Posh Spice):
