Hero's Ink

A few days back I wrote about Hero's Ink - the shop trying to open on Seneca Street in Buffalo. Here is an update on the story.

The good news is that the Common Council's legislation committee approved the studio with the full committee voting on it next week. Lets hope that they make the right choice.

However even if all goes well and the studio is allowed to open it seems as though Oliver will always be the subject of suspicion. The article and newscasts presentation push the reader/listener to the conclusion that tattooing and immorality are one in the same and that Heros Ink will eventually lead to trouble.

Kearns clearly read threat is followed by Lovejoy District Councilman Richard Fontana saying, "Sure, if the neighbors come to us, they tell us the business is acting illegally, or doing things illegal, we could bring that businessman in for a hearing and revoke his special use permit, and that person is then out of business."

This has happened to two other tattoo shops within the same area (now threatening legal action) and Lovejoy's quote is clearly a way to let Oliver (Hero's Ink's owner) know that the community is in control and any wrongdoings will mean a quick end to his business. I'm sure the Seneca Block Club will be watching and waiting. 

One of the women from the Block Club listed the feedback from removed tattooists as "intimidating". Perhaps; but I doubt it. It's truly unfortunate that the look of someone tattooed still brings the beholder to assume that that person is a bad or threatening person. Truly not all folks who wear full sleeves are intimidating.
