While my favorite artists are at ANB, I'm also a shameless fan of Kat Von D. I have been trying to get an appointment with her now for 8 months to no avail but it's worth the effort in my opinion. Celebrity has nothing to do with it; her art simply rocks. I could care less that she is on TV. In fact the other artist I admire most is Tony Ciavarro who most people probably haven't heard of but should. Both are also great people (Kat from what I hear and Tony whom I've met).
In putting ANB together and looking at different artists on a daily basis for the last 2-3 years I have become a fan of certain peoples work. People are surprised that I would not only get work done at the shop that I partly own. Bob and Heidi are the best in Buffalo and from what I've seen some of the best period, but like an art collector I'm not going to only collect pieces done by one artist.
That is what tattooing is about; its art; hence our tag - Art-N-Body; Art for Life. While I understand that most people aren’t collectors it is important that your piece(s) not only tell a symbolic story but a personal one as well and I think that the artists at Art-N-Body help create that story. That’s why Bob is so well known; it's not only his art that stands out but his personality and the experience he adds to getting work done. Our artists and shop are part of the story that can be shared along with the symbolism behind our client’s pieces.
The moral is pick your piece via talent AND the artist. I have heard plenty of horror stories behind great tattoos from people who hated their artist and hence hate their piece regretting that they ever got it.
